Women's Shooting Connection of New Mexico

Organizations

Of course, there are many shooting-related organizations. Some are specific to women while others are not. Here are just a few:

Women’s Shooting Connection of New Mexico
Naturally, we are going to blow our own horn here. A non-profit educational and social club for women shooters of New Mexico. Meetings are the 2nd Sunday of the month. If you’d like to learn more about carrying, get practice with other women, or simply be around other women shooters, this club is for you! For more information, please email [email protected].
Armed Women of America
A non-profit organization that organizes local groups of women around the country that meet monthly to practice, learn and grow as shooters. This is the new name for the Well-Armed Woman Shooting Chapters.
The Well-Armed Woman
TWAW has a lot of information ranging from making the decision about whether to get a gun to basic information about guns to stories from women about their experiences.
Shoot Like a Girl
An organization which empowers women by introducing them to the shooting sports. Their web site has a great deal of information and they have a semi-tractor trailer with a mobile range that travels the country going to various locations. Women 16 and up can come into the trailer and shoot a military grade simulation using a pistol and rifle, then shoot a “test flight” with a compound bow. Each woman is taken through the gun safety rules, shown how to load a magazine, rack the slide, unload the magazine and properly put the gun down on the bench.
A Girl & A Gun
A ladies-only organization established by women shooters for women pistol, rifle, and shotgun shooters. It is designed to take beginners to whatever skill level they wish to achieve and provide experienced shooters with more opportunities.
The Cornered Cat
An extensive web site for women and personal protection, “If you have to fight... fight like a cornered cat.”
National Rifle Association
The NRA pretty much covers the gamut, from education and training to sponsoring events to political lobbying. Their primary focus is to protect your 2nd Amendment rights. It includes information specific to women.
New Mexico Shooting Sports Association
NMSSA
New Mexico Department of Game & Fish
The Game & Fish Department has a lot of hunting and fishing related training available.
Mule Deer Foundation
The Mule Deer Foundation with its DOES (Discover the Outdoors and Encourage Sportsmanship) program has a great deal of training and learning experiences for women.
