Where to Shoot

These are some of the venues available in New Mexico for shooting. Before you go to a range where you’ve not been before, be sure to read the range rules for that range.

Indoor Ranges

Mags Indoor Shooting: Mags is an indoor shooting range in Moriarty. It also offers training, and guns and accessories.
Calibers: Calibers is an indoor shooting range with 2 locations in Albuquerque. It also offers training, and guns and accessories.

Outdoor Ranges

Bighorn Range: Bighorn is a membership range, located between Edgewood and Moriarty in Torrance County. It has ranges for pistol, rifle, black powder and shotgun.
Albuquerque Shooting Range Park: The City of Albuquerque provides and manages this publicly operated shooting range to promote the safe use of firearms and as an alternative to illegal firearm practice on the mesas, open spaces and vacant areas.
Del Norte Gun Club: This is a membership range in Rio Rancho; it has rifle, shotgun, pistol and archery ranges.
Los Lunas Gun Club: This is a membership range in Los Lunas.
Zia Rifle and Pistol Club: This is a membership range south of Albuquerque.
Whittington Center: Located near Raton, the Whittington Center is a hunting, shooting, and outdoor recreation facility. It offers ranges for every kind of shooting discipline, a shotgun center, a firearms museum, specialized firearms training, guided and unguided hunts, RV and tent camping, plus an adventure camp for younger shooters and wildlife adventurers.

Assault Weapons

An assault weapon is a fully automatic firearm, such as a “machine gun”, that will continue to fire as long as the trigger is depressed and there are cartridges in the feed system. Assault weapons have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.

Use of this term to describe any semi-automatic firearm (such as the AR-15), regardless of its cosmetic similarity to a true assault weapon, is usually an indication that the individual using it has been duped by a political agenda.
